How to Think Like a Leader

John Quincy Adams defines the leader as " [the person whose his] . . .actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more . . ." To be a leader means that all spotlights are aiming at you. In other words, you are the center of attention. It also means that you are like a pillar that people tend to rely on when they are in need. Most importantly, to be a leader mean to be like all the most influential people of all time like Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and . . . etc. The question is, what makes a person leader? And What are the characteristics of a leader? This article provides you with 7 characteristics that are shared among all leaders.

1- High self-esteem

“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.”  Norman Vincent Peale
High self-esteem cannot be established overnight because it requires a lot of work to do. If you are asking how can I establish a high self-esteem and confidence check this article: How to Enhance Your Confidence

2- Have an Aim

Leaders know what they want and the way they want it. They never show hesitation nor doubt. Having an aim is very essential because it gives you the focus and makes the way clear to you. Thus, if your aim is nothing then you will achieve nothing in your life. Based on this, the leader knows what he wants and is able to define his way by setting aims.

Always remember Eileen Caddy Words, "A soul without a high aim is like a ship without a rudder."

3- Know where you are heading to

This point is almost the same as the previous one because they are interconnected. Setting an aim defines where you are heading. Thus, you cannot know where you are going unless you set a goal. However, leaders usually tend to make prior plans that pave their way towards success and greatness.

4- Provide a helping hand to others

“I start with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.”  Ralph Nader
The rule is simple; the leader can never be arrogant. On the contrary, the leader always as a pillar; people rely on when they are in need, and s/he never refuses to give a hand. When you help others people automatically see you as a reference they refer to when they need a help.

5- Know your potentials

Nobody is capable of doing everything. There are certain fields where some people may excel while others cannot. Thus, it is important for the leader to know where s/he excels. When someone does something very good people will look at him with amazement. Know your potentials, develop them and be the best one in that field. However, Confucius says, "The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence."

6- Provide solutions

To be a leader means to be an idol to a big number of people and as stated in the introduction a pillar and reference that people rely on. A main role of a leader is to provide  solutions and to be a reference. This characteristic shows the strength of the leader as s/he is able to provide solutions even in the hardest conditions. This requires being updated in many fields and acquainted with many challenges.

7- Be well Organized

Great leader know What to do, How to do it, and when to do it. They set prior plans for everything with timetables. To be a leader, you have to be well organized.
